During 2020 it is the small business cafe owner who has been one of the hardest-hit industries during the pandemic. Many owners employ local full and part-time staff and are a point of community engagement.
For Hamish and Val Watson, the founders of Cafe63 this has been a time to support the owners across their franchise network and still continue to plan for future growth.
Cafes in their popular network started to innovate on delivery to clients. Orders came in via Facebook, SMS, and other delivery app solutions. Along the way, they also started cooking and providing breakfast packs as well as stocking essentials for purchase such as milk and bread.
Now, the cafes are starting to reopen to normal business, opening like again like the flowers they also provide as a unique part of the Cafe63 experience.
Today Hamish talks to The Morning Kick host, Andrew Pitchford about the start of the dream, lessons learned during COVID-19 and where life for Cafe63 is heading.
