News From The Drug War Front with Geoff Ward and Marion Watson.
Supported by: Canberra Alliance for Harm Minimisation and Advocacy and The Connection.
Recorded at: 2xx FM98.3 Community Radio.
From 10:30am until noon on Tuesday February 23rd there will be a new edition of the radio show “News from the Drug War Front” brought to you by CAHMA, Canberra’s peer-based drug user organisation.
- In national news, the article “Alcohol not injecting room the real worry for the revival of Kings Cross”, by the founding medical director of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC) Ingrid van Beek, responds to recent calls that the facility be moved.
-Most of the Australian population does not see the need for major changes in regard to alcohol use, and support for policies which reduce alcohol-related harms that are based on the strongest evidence is declining according to Dr Chris Holmwood.
- On the international scene, we will discuss “Possessing heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and other drugs for personal use is no longer a criminal offense in Oregon” by Scott Atkins and Clay Mosser, reproduced with permission by Black Poppy.
-Just under 1 in 6 of England’s adult population are on antidepressants, while 1 in 10 admit to using illegal drugs. This crossover poses a few potential problems: when combined, antidepressants and recreational drugs come with their own set of risks.
- The show is co-presented with Marion Watson. Music is played during the show which is broadcast live-to-air on 2XX, Canberra’s Community Radio, 98.3 FM. It can be streamed live through 2XX or heard as audio on demand via the 2XX website. Go to Programs and find “News from the Drug War Front”. The show can also be heard via the Podbean podcast app.
