E76: Leadership and Innovation at BMJ - Dr Kieran Walsh (BMJ Clinical Director)

In this week’s episode we are joined by Dr Walsh, who shares with us his journey from the very beginning. We delve into his career exploring the incredible achievements he has accomplished and how he eventually became the clinical director of The BMJ. He shares with us how his initial role was actually supposed to be an editor only for a short period of time. We discuss the pivotal role of digital technology for clinicians in the UK and the pioneering work they are doing with clinical decision support products and medical education. 

Dr Walsh explains the need to keep up to date with digital technology, facilitating on-demand access to medical resources and how the best products and services are driven by user feedback. He shares some tips on how he managed to publish more than 200 papers and what leadership means to him. 

Dr Kieran Walsh is Clinical Director at BMJ. He is the clinical lead of the medical education and clinical decision support resources at BMJ. He has a vast amount of experience in online medical education, clinical decision support, face to face delivery of medical education, and both summative and formative assessment. He has experience of using all of these in programmes to strengthen health systems. He is Adjunct Associate Professor in Teaching and Research at Monash University and has written four books on medical education. He has published over 200 papers in the biomedical literature and has written four books.
