The November PETE Collaborative (Thursday Nov 11th@4pm Eastern) focused on addressing areas of opportunity for our profession, so that we can continue to improve our practice and prepare quality physical education teachers.
The questions we led with are:
· What do you do in your programs to teach PSTs how to be culturally responsive?
· In what ways are your PSTs exposed to K-12 students who are different than them (e.g., SES, race, rural/urban)?
· What experiences do PSTs have teaching K-12 students prior to student teaching?
· How do you ensure that your PSTs get experiences teaching across grade levels (e.g., elementary, middle, high)?
· Do you communicate across the program faculty about assignments/requirements for various classes (e.g., using common terms, common assessments/rubrics, etc.)?
· Do you map out assessments across courses, so students don’t have several exams/big assignments the same week?
· Do you combine courses for more field experience (health methods/sec methods) in back-to-back classes so you can go to schools?
· How do you teach about the "other" work of teachers in your program (e.g., back-to-school nights, faculty meetings, advocacy, bus/lunch duty, assigning lockers, etc.)?
How do you engage alumni?
