Welcome! and Thank you for listening.
I think most people listening to this podcast believe that plant based nutrition can prevent and reverse lifestyle diseases. But what about infectious diseases? Do we fight infectious diseases or not let them get a hold in the first place? Is sterilizing the environment with chemicals and prophylaxis with vaccines the answer? Or should the focus be more directed on the health of the individual?
We definitely have food deserts in the USA where cheap processed foods are cheaper and more assessable than fresh fruits and vegetables. But there is also a choice in a lot of instances that requires a little more personal effort.
Today, I compare a grocery cart of $150.00 worth of fresh vs processed foods to feed a family of 4 for the week. You may be surprised with the amount of whole organic foods I was able to put in a cart for that price. While children can survive on calories, in order to thrive they need fresh fruits and vegetables with minimal chemical contamination.
Study after study shows low fat, high fiber, and high nutrient content to be associated with less disease. Yet, we turn to processed foods and supplements for our health.
Most people would agree that health is number one when it comes to things most valuable. Nutrition is the number one ingredient for health yet we delegate it to fast food companies, and large chemical corporations that make processed foods in boxes that promise nutrition.
