Our guest this week is Matthew McAllister, who is Founder of https://mortgagepropeller.com, an online platform that links people seeking mortgages with Mortgage Brokers.
Matthew is a very interesting guest and tells us about his early career as a Trader which he wanted to become after seeing the film Trading Places.
Matthew talks about resilience, especially working in the Trading industry where you might have to accept losses on your 60% of your positions and where 95% of the people leave in Year one
He tells us that while doing a Smurfit MBA, they went into the NDRC Accelerator and though he wasn’t sure what it was initially, he eventually got hooked on the Start Up world.
Matthew also tells us a great story about buying a house on his Credit Card because it was such a great price and he didn’t have the cash at the time.
During this time he talked to ten brokers and five banks and he learned everything there was to know about applying for mortgages, which was onerous and tedious. Matthew then got the idea for Mortgage Propellor from this experience. Online mortgage platforms are coming into their own during Covid and the move to digitisation.
Mathew is a great guest and he plays out on a great song
