Nació el año 1033 en Aosta (Piamonte). Ingreso en el monasterio benedictino de Le Bec, en Normandía, y enseño teología a sus hermanos de Orden, mientras adelantaba admirablemente por el camino de la perfección. Trasladado a Inglaterra, fue elegido obispo de Cantorbery y combatió valientemente por la libertad de la Iglesia, sufriendo dos veces el destierro. Escribió importantes obras de teología. Murió el año 1109.
