When we find ourselves saying yes when we mean no, we are essentially saying no to ourselves and giving our personal power away. Every time we continue on this pleasing path, we are ultimately trying to control other people's thoughts and feelings. Most of the time we say Yes when we mean No to avoid the feeling that we might hurt someone’s feelings or cause disappointment. We don’t have any control over how anyone outside of us thinks or feels. When we are willing to feel whatever feelings we might have when we say what we mean, we are honoring ourselves and owning our truth.
We cannot please our family, friends, clients, all the time. And really, we shouldn’t try to. We should tell the truth. Show up as ourselves as much as we can as often as we can. It is a given that people may feel disappointed by our actions, but that is their responsibility. We all want to be loved and accepted by others. It is important to love and accept yourself first. Then you have the opportunity to feel love and acceptance at all times. Listen in as I share my own story of people-pleasing and how to make a shift from pleasing others to stepping into your authentic self.
