The College Success Habits Podcast
Education:Self-Improvement
Ep #141 - Empathy is being able to walk in someone else's shoes for a brief time. To step into their world, without judgement, without giving advise, while releasing your biases, and being truly, deeply engaged in the conversation.
College life is your opportunity to gain tremendous growth in your emotional intelligence because you are literally surrounded by people who are on similar journeys of self-discovery and transformation.
It's like being at a weekend long personal development workshop but for years.
If you are ready to build bridges instead of walls - around yourself or others - then you are in the right place for today is the day we deep dive into Empathy and why we need more of it in our world, right now, today.

Show notes I discuss in the episode...
Breńe Brown
- Perspective taking
- Staying out of judgment
- Recognizing emotions someone else is feeling
- Communicating that you understand an emotion
* Three types of Empathy
Cognitive: Simply knowing how the other person feels and what they might be thinking. * perspective-taking; perceptual positions
connecting their unfulfilled needs to needs you have had unfulfilled
Emotional: When you take on the feelings of the other person.
empaths: exude the emotions another person is sharing with you
Compassionate: We understand a person’s predicament AND feel with them; can be, spontaneously motivated to help them
people pleaser, volunteer
